As its name suggests, Playa Norte is the beach located in the north of Isla Mujeres, just 10 minutes walk from the maritime terminal of Isla Mujeres.

As a reference point, Playa Norte is in front of the Mía Reef hotel and to get to this paradisiacal beach of Isla Mujeres, you can take a cab if you are in a place a little far away, such as Punta Sur or walk if you are near the center of the island.

Another option to get to this beach is to rent a golf cart. Although we don’t really recommend it, because you won’t be able to enjoy the place as you should.

What to do in Playa Norte?

Playa Norte as such has its main activity, which is snorkeling, because it is a shallow beach where there are colorful fish and reefs nearby. That is why it is the favorite place to swim, snorkel and relax.

Transportation from Cancun airport to Atelier Playa Mujeres.

The hotel Atalier Playa Mujeres is a luxury resort located 29.9 kilometers from Cancun Airport. This is an approximate 35 minute drive. Of course this transfer time can be less or more, it all depends on the type of transportation you choose to get to the hotel.

Transportation from Cancun airport to Atelier Playa Mujeres

Transportation from Cancun airport to Atelier Playa Mujeres.

The hotel Arelier Playa Mujeres, as its name suggests, is a 5 star luxury hotel located in the town of Playa Mujeres. This locality belongs to the municipality of Isla Mujeres and is not part of a “very habitable” area, so to speak.

That means that there is not much public transportation to get there, which leaves us only 3 options to get from Cancun Airport to the hotel Atelier.

Private Transportation

The best option to get to the Atelier Hotel from Cancun Airport is through a private transportation service. This service can be booked before your flight to Cancun.

This way they will be waiting for you as soon as your flight arrives to the city, they are equipped with air conditioning, cell phone charger, ample space to comfortably transport a maximum of 9 passengers and can be customized with baby seats.

If you want to know the different options of private transportation, as well as the rates offered by Cancun Shuttle, you can click here.

Public Transportation

Our second option, which we don’t really recommend if you are traveling with a lot of luggage and in a large group, is public transportation. In this case you have to buy a ticket (or tickets) at the ADO booth at the airport and wait for the bus.

When you take the bus, it will drop you off in downtown Cancun and from downtown Cancun, take a cab to the hotel Atelier Playa Mujeres.

The disadvantages of this option are the waiting time for the ADO bus, the cost per person, how heavy it becomes if you travel with a lot of luggage and many of the cabs can only carry a maximum of 4 people, they do not have air conditioning and can cost up to 50 USD the trip from downtown Cancun to the Hotel.

Public Transportation to the hotel atelier playa mujeres

Cab

Our last transportation option to the hotel Atelier Playa Mujeres is the cab service. You can take this service from the airport and the difference from the ones in downtown Cancun is that at least these are a little more equipped.

It should be noted that the cab is a service only taken by people who are in a hurry to get there, as there are a maximum of 4 passengers and some luggage and the cost can be up to 200 USD.

A little bit about the Hotel Atelier Playa Mujeres

The hotel Atelier Playa Mujeres is one of the best resorts in Cancun and although it is not in an area very close to downtown Cancun or the Hotel Zone, it offers you what very few accommodations have: Privacy.

Remember that this 5 star resort is located in a place where very few people can get to (unless they have their own car), so you will have a beach all to yourself (and other hotel guests).

As an extra tip, we recommend you to subscribe to their newsletter and have access to exclusive offers and promotions.

When you arrive at Isla Mujeres, the feeling you experience is that of being in a town that has an incomparable charisma. Each one of us can prove it by walking through its cobblestone streets and visiting the church, the main square, the Municipal Palace, the House of Culture, or simply by sitting under the trees in the park or on the east boardwalk overlooking the sea.

isla mujeres cancun

With its eight kilometers long (5 miles) by half a mile wide (.3 miles) it sits just six kilometers off the northeast coast of Cancun. If you’re looking for a break from the hectic pace of Cancun, Isla Mujeres is a refreshing option.

“Isla”, as it is affectionately called, attracted international attention because of its exceptional coastline. The clear, warm water, abundant marine life, reefs and caves attracted Jacques Cousteau, who was guided by legendary local diver Ramon Bravo.

A better option is the area adjacent to the airstrip, just south of the city. Most of the residents of Isla live from diving and fishing. They are very hospitable hosts to both daytime visitors and nighttime guests.

The town is home to stores, restaurants, bars, brightly painted houses and the Plaza Municipal. Upon arrival you can rent mopeds, golf carts, bicycles and cabs. In the south, a road leads to mangrove lagoons, an airstrip, stunning beaches and beach restaurants before driving back north.

The trip to the southern tip of the island takes about 20 minutes. The eastern shore of the island is rocky, rugged and almost unserviced.

Garrafon Marine Park is a popular beach site and ideal for swimming. There you can snorkel, mountain hike, zip line, swim with dolphins, kayak trips, snuba and scuba diving.

In addition, the site has dining establishments and showers. At the southern tip of the island you will find a modern lighthouse overlooking a small Mayan temple dedicated to Ixchel, goddess of fertility.

This temple pointed the way for Mayan sailors to settlements as far away as Cozumel. A colorful Caribbean-style village with stores, a café and an outdoor sculpture garden now occupies the entrance to this area.

The traditional boat trips are a good option to reach the most interesting points in Isla Mujeres and its surroundings. Boats leave throughout the day from the cooperatives located in Rueda Medina, the main avenue of the urban center.

On the other hand, several establishments on Isla Mujeres offer tours to another island located nearby: Contoy, which houses in its reserve more than ninety species of birds and a great variety of flora and fauna, which will make your trip even more magical.
