It is the ideal destination for diving and snorkeling
Due to its characteristics, the Riviera Maya has countless places to venture into the depths and appreciate the majestic underwater world.
Beneath these waters, stories and feats are told, such as the warships sunk in the sea of Puerto Morelos and Cancun that are now part of the marine fauna; to travel on these ships is to discover the home of an infinite number of species.
Here you can also swim in El Cielo, does it seem incredible? In Cozumel it is possible. This part of the planet was given that name because of its snowy beaches, the blue-turquoise waters and the bank of sea stars that together resemble the sky.
Reefs in the Riviera Maya
Three of its parks are part of the Great Western Atlantic Reef Belt, the second longest barrier reef in the world.
In all three, the landscape is different, incomparable, so wonderful that just by seeing them you will fall in love with the planet, an extensive network that connects the Western National Parks of Isla Mujeres, Punta Cancún and Punta Nizuc, as well as those of Puerto Morelos and Cozumel.
Cenotes and lagoons
Cenotes are mystical, historical places and considered ─siglos atrás─ as portals or windows to the underworld for the Mayans; their beauty is indescribable and immersing yourself in their waters is an unforgettable experience.
In the Mayan Riviera there are cenotes whose majesty can only be appreciated by visiting them; the Taj-Mahal is 25 kilometers south of Playa del Carmen. It is open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and is formed by four interconnected cenotes.
More to the north, in Tulum, is the cenote Dos Ojos whose name was assigned due to the two connected cenotes that when seen from the heights resemble two eyes; it is also the third longest subway river in the world.
To get to Bacalar, one of the three magical towns of Quintana Roo along with Tulum and Isla Mujeres, you must travel 35 kilometers south of Chetumal, the state capital.
Archaeological Sites
The Archaeological Zone of Tulum is a walled Mayan city overlooking the Caribbean, located 60 kilometers from Playa del Carmen and about 180 kilometers from Cancun. From a distance it is an imposing image for visitors. An experience that is undoubtedly necessary to live.
This archaeological zone is one of the most visited in all Mexico after Chichen Itza and Teotihuacan.
Coba is another of the Mayan majestic sites settled in the Riviera, its original name comes from Co-Bah, which means abundant water and is located about 100 kilometers from Playa del Carmen and 40 from Tulum, a paradise you can’t miss!
The Ruins of Xaman-Ha are located in Playa del Carmen, it is a recent site that requires a permit from the Center of the National Institute of Anthropology and History of Quintana Roo.
It is a simple process, and once inside you will be able to appreciate the place whose name Xaman há (Northern Water) was once the identity of all Playa del Carmen. The entrance is free
Parks
In this area of Quintana Roo there are the best parks in the state, Xel-Ha, Xenses, Xplor and Xcaret are some of them, so if you like different experiences, these are good options to spend a great New Year’s Eve vacation in the Riviera Maya and more if you want to enjoy it in a family plan.
