Quintana Roo protected areas
The eco-systems of Quintana Roo are pillars that bring great value to tourism in the state and are open to the general public, both for visitors and locals.

Protected areas of Quintana Roo
The natural wealth of Quintana Roo is great, but did you know that there are 11 Natural Protected Areas in the state? These are areas that the government of a country has decided to delimit because of their biological, cultural or historical wealth, in such a way that it seeks to regulate or impede the activity of man to preserve or restore them. Laguna de Chankanaab
This natural water deposit, located southwest of the legal estate of Cozumel Island, is part of the Natural Park category and its objective is to promote coral growth, as well as the development of large communities of fish, mollusks and crustaceans.
Kabah Park
Kabha Park is part of the protected natural areas of Quintana Roo and is located in the city of Cancun.
It has a dimension of 41 hectares and mainly promotes recreation by highlighting the historical, artistic and cultural values of the region.
Bahía de Chetumal, santuario del manatí
This state reserve is located in the city of Chetumal, municipality of Othon P. Blanco, and is an ecosystem formed by coastal lagoons, islands and extensive mangroves, and its emerald green waters shelter a hive of wildlife and some man-made wonders.
Xcacel-Xcacelito
This area is subject to ecological conservation, a sanctuary for the sea turtle, located in Tulum, is a fantasy site, excellent to forget about the problems and let yourself be carried away by the sensations that its paradisiacal environment awakens.
Manati Lagoon
This area subject to ecological conservation, a state refuge for flora and fauna, located in the municipality of Benito Juárez, constitutes an ecosystem with great ecological relevance, since its wetlands function as transition systems between the purely terrestrial and marine environments in which a wide range of plant species adapted to these conditions are developed.
Colombia Lagoon
This state ecological park, located in Cozumel, houses the great eco-tourism project “Parks and Museums of Cozumel”, which protects the vestiges of the Mayan culture that inhabited the region and promotes the rational administration of natural resources.
Chichancanab Lagoon System
This state reserve, located in José María Morelos, is one of the largest freshwater deposits and contributes to the regulation of sea temperatures worldwide; it has a great variety of fish inside, as well as large shrubs in its surroundings.
Bacalar Lagoon Park
This state ecological park, located in Bacalar, is of great wealth counting among them species of flora and fauna characteristic of lacustrine environments and some that incur in salty and marine environments.
Chacmochuch Lagoon System
This area subject to ecological conservation, state refuge of flora and fauna, located in Isla Mujeres and Benito Juarez, is a mosaic of habitats that offer suitable environments for the stay of 194 species of flora and fauna typical of the Yucatan Peninsula.
Forests and Wetlands of Cozumel
This state reserve, located in Cozumel, records at least 692 terrestrial species: 295 higher plants, 7 freshwater invertebrates, 8 freshwater fish, 5 amphibians, 31 reptiles, 328 birds (85 of them migratory) and 18 mammals.
Ombligo verde
This municipal ecological reserve is one of the last lungs of the city of Cancun that safeguards flora and fauna, so it does not allow access to people.
Sian Ka’an Biosphere
Another of the incredible ecosystems of the state of Quintana Roo is the Sian Ka’an Biosphere declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, and is also considered one of the largest protected natural areas of the Mexican Caribbean and has more than 520 thousand hectares that have 3 central areas (Muyil, Cayo Culebras and Uaymil) where only human activity is allowed for scientific research.
