What to visit in Chetumal
Chetumal is the capital of the state of Quintana Roo and although, as such is not a “tourist” city, it is one of the top places to visit on your visit to the Riviera Maya and we can take you with our private transfer service or you can get there on your own, but whichever way you decide to come here, it will be quite a travel odyssey.

Chetumal is the capital of the state of Quintana Roo and is the beginning of the Mexican Republic or in other words: Mexico begins here. Among the list of places to visit in Quintana Roo, Chetumal cannot be left out and although it is not a very “commercial” place like Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Cancun or the Riviera Maya itself. It is a place worth visiting. So let’s see right now what we can find here.
What to visit in Chetumal
Bacalar
Bacalar is a beautiful magical town located very close to Chetumal and in fact, it is a must to visit this place if you decide to spend a few days in Chetumal. Because of the distance between Cancun and Bacalar, it is almost impossible to visit and enjoy it in just one day.
But if you are staying somewhere in Chetumal, it is much easier to do the tour. It’s less travel time. And of course, you will love it, especially the lagoon of the 7 colors.
Mahahual
Mahahual is another place close to Chetumal and is surrounded by virgin beaches. It will be a perfect place to spend a whole night in one of its beautiful beachfront cabins.
Chetumal’s Malecon
The two previous places, are nearby places that if or if, become key pieces to know in your stay in the state capital. But if we talk about the things that are part of the region and you will love to see it either during the day or at night, it is Chetumal’s Malecon.
As such, it is a tour of about 3 km, where you will know the bay of Chetumal, various monuments, and of course you can enter and enjoy the bars or restaurants nearby the local atmosphere and the cuisine of the region.

If you are a lover of culture and history, the museum of Chetumal is another alternative to visit. It is a museum that narrates the history of the city.
Fisherman’s Fountain
We already told you a little about Chetumal’s boardwalk, and one of the most emblematic works that we will find and as a tribute to the city is the fisherman’s fountain, which at night is illuminated with colors and of course, you can take some pictures in the letters that say and quote: “Here begins Mexico“.
Payo Obispo Zoo
Do you like zoos? Cancun and the Riviera Maya don’t have zoos, but Chetumal does and it is one of the most important attractions in México of Quintana Roo. A place that has more than 50 species of an average of 200 specimens and where you and your whole family can interact with some animals, go horseback riding, rappel and much more.
La Casa De La Crónica
For those who don’t know: Payo Obispo is the old name of the city, before it was known as Chetumal and although this is reflected in several street names, avenues, main streets and attractions. The history of the same is revealed in the “Casa de la Cronica”. An Anglo-Caribbean style house, with its creaky wooden floor, houses the history of Chetumal.
